Multiplayer notice: I have set the standard resolutions (640x480) to 1024x768 for multiplayer. To change resolution on multiplayer you need to change Prefs.cfg file (line resolution 1-3 possible to use in MP). Playing MCG - Darkest Hours vs. Non Modded causes Crashes for non Mod players when Mod only items and maps are used. Be sure all participators of multiplayer game have running the same game version on gameranger. Remastered MCG - v3.0! New Warriors don´t work for Multi-Player. (only 30 instead of 50 to use) - Darkest Hours already HAS mixedtech-patch. No need to install mixed-tech versions from other sites.

Singleplayer Notice: When you play single player campaigns or solomissions use the resolution exe files to start game manually. (Be sure original MCG CD is in drive or Mounted before starting exe!!!)

It's EPIC!


It combines Original Campaigns with all famous user campaign builts ever done for MCG. The difference is you can play 130 instead of just 42 campaign missions total. Campaigns in "Darkest Hours" are much longer then Vanilla campaigns. They are telling other sub-stories who took part at the same time within invasion. Darkest Hours simply offers fun for much more totsal-playtime then Original Version ever could & it gives players a new level of freedom while now it is possible to mod and play around with original missions - what was impossible before.
Further i have rewritten many of the game files and corrected some bugs. For the player nothing really changes but the bandbroad the game has to offer.

Im a big MechCommander Fan since my youth. I had the version you have for two decades. In this time many people developed great things for MechCommander. Such as Multi-Player Scenarios, user campaigns, mods and other stuff. 2006 three user campaigns came up at the end of MSZone times.

1. Exodus & Turncoat
2. Xenocide & Bengal Lancers
3. X-Ray & DSC-Raid

Each of this campaigns contained several missions with another background story during invasion. The customer campaigns overwrote the two existent ones and are available as different game versions with other Original & Expansion campaigngs. What i have done was to combine these three user custom campaigns into two big campaigns containing Exodus, Xenocide & X-Ray campaigns as original campaign overriding one and Turncoat, Bengal Lancers & DSC-Raid campaigns for expansion override.

But this wasn´t enough to me cause i had original game with its great campaigns and the big user campaign merge... - i wanted to be able to play ALL MISSIONS ever made into TWO big campaigns instead of playing several short campaigns. I wanted to skill all warriors or minimum many to it´s top level and then not only play one mission until game ends but more. So i decided to find a solution for integrating original game into my user merge. Finally it works now. All Original Missions are part of the biggest single-player campaigns ever done for MechCommander.
But STILL ... - this wasn´t enough for me. I wanted to integrate Multi-Player functionalities too into remastered version and so i started atleast to work out a solution for bringing Remastered MechCommander Online. The guys on MechCommander Online helped me to integrate Multi-Player functionality into MCG - DH v2.0d. Since then it is possible to play online on gameranger with the remastered Version i offer for free. The MCX.exe in Darkest Hours Main folder is compatible to gamerangers entry for MechCommander Gold.
Last but not least i integrated *.iso file into main folder of game so that it is not necessary to download an iso file seperate when you downloaded MCG DH v3.0 - cause iso file is already in game folder. That is one reason game folder is that big. Old and usual informations tell that in order to install MCG people need to create game folder and copy CD content into it to have game playable with ISO file - with my full version you just download the pre-builded folder with ISO inside. Means installation is more simple then installing original version to get it running on all systems.

I did testing v3.0 on several OS & physical systems: Windows 10 64bit/32bit, Win8, WinXP/32bit & Win98/16bit SE - game works for all of them ;).

THIS IS A MASTER PIECE!!!! Thank you soooooo much for making this.I just got into Mechcommander.Wanted a game in the Battletech universe for so long.I didnt have a pc, back in the day when Mechcommander was released.So im very very happy someone made it trouble free to install.And all the content! So amazing.This is far far better than the original! Thank you so much again.I joined here , just to tell you that.Fantasic work! Download this.You will NOT regret it.He has done us all a big favor! I would most surely hire you for my merc squad lol! Thanks again.Really enjoying this and Mechcommander Omnitech.More than games i paid 50$ or more for.I just cant say enough .AMAZING!!!!!!

Oh i got one question.When you play .In 1920x1080,The mission is in full screen, but the Mech bay and purchase and briefing screen menu  .Doesn't scale to the full width of my screen.Not a big deal, but if theres a way to fix that.This would be perfect,I am guessing not. but thought i would ask. Thank you man, that really honors me and my work.

The in-game graphics will be in resolution you have chosen.
Menu/logistics are designed for 640x480 - there are ways to make it another resolution but I'm ashamed no way to introduce them optional that you can switch without deeper changes resolution you want. I'm working on that too on a long time perspective but for now all users must live with Align Top Left 640x480 Vanilla MC Menu design.

While I am sure Darkest Hours is probably better than the original one in most respects, I have concerns about some specific points.

I will state here just two of my concerns:

1- "mixed" techs:
I liked how when designing a mission for Mechcommander, yopu could choose if the player would play as clan or IS. This is no longer the case.
Also when playing multiplayer, I LIKED being able to choose my tech base.
Giving everyting everyone at all times dulls the decisions and makes the game less variable, leading to one "optimized" loadout.

Sure, Clan weapons are better. But they are also more expensive. The same can be said about their mechs. If you tweak tonnage to CP carefully, as we did with my playgroup, IS was very balanced to Clan, because they could actually field better weapons and more mechs for the same amount of points.

Now everything is the same. And boring.

Is there no way to turn off "mixed tech"?

Sure you can turn off "mixed tech" by downgrading master-purchase files (use ispur.fit, clanpur.fit (multiplayer), netpur.fit (solo-missions)). Place these files into (just remove if wanna take back changes again)
C:\Games\Darkest Hours\data\missions\... (purchase master files)
Opposite is fact, original game was boring and always the same. I introduced mixed-tech cause the ONLY EXISTING online community for MechCommander demanded it in order to secure supporting me with my Modding.
Since 2006 Mixed-Tech is general Tech of MechCommander. The discussion you wanna start was settled in this time. Im not discussing this Mixed-Tech anymore. When you downgrade your mixed-tech and go online on Gameranger in order to play you face not only disadvantage choosing IS, no you have several items less to buy in logistics. Sure you can do but there are NO people playing active multiplayer left who have your opinion about that matter. They only want to play with mixed-tech for both sides so that competitors always can be sure having same budget and chances to win. They will sure appreciate to meet you with downgraded mixed-tech - cause what they like most is - dominating others and telling them how bad they are.
For Solo-Missions only i introduced Mixed-Tech cause this Way solo-missions not only a single-player beneath campaigns but a training ground for Multi-Player games. With same mixed-tech and kind of budget you start in these missions. So you will be prepared when you face the first active players of Online MechCommander on gameranger. If you don´t want to be prepared like i wisely have chosen for my dear playing community - just downgrade your files and let the people with Mixed-Tech on gameranger slaughter you. Find more people being your opinion, make all a poll and show me majority wants it removed - i will instantly remove it on Darkest Hours!
And just for notice: I ONLY INTRODUCED MIXED-TECH for solo-mission game feature (in order to train under Multi-Player circumstances - only difference your being able to use +20 more pilots whom not work on Multi-Player so i took them out for Multi-Player mixed-tech.
All single-player campaigns containing the old tech-levels - not touched campaign purchases that way. I did modding all this stuff with intention to keep the origin allive. Introducing Mixed-Tech to Multi-Player was a compromise...

You´re free to use original sound files too. I have left them in you just need to remove the newer ones and rename the original ones back to its origin file name (the name of the new one). You can find them in your game-folders:
C:\Games\Darkest Hours\data\SOUND\
Files are named
MUSIC01.WaV
...
MUSIC47.WAV
I don´t list up what music is working for what now but to see files i have added just look for the biggest file sizes of wav files. All files larger then 5-10MB are Music-CD-Quality-WAV files i added from my fundus. To listen your own favourite songs you just need to convert files from *.mp3 to *.wav format. Therefore you not even need additional software. I turn mp3 to WAV instant on this site:

I didn´t change any values neither changed the settings presetted on this site. Easy Upload&Download process, putting into SOUND folder and rename to MUSIC file you desire to exchange for better music. You´re of course free to activate original old Mono music.

There is a lot content i can introduce. But i only introduce things from what i know not touching original ingame balance and physics. I would like to keep it still in the original manner. Here a little list of what is on my mind:
- adding TheRepulse campaign (8 Missions)
- doing ArtWork for Resolution problem with game menus
- solving old original bugs of vanilla game and usermade campaigns
- introducing my own missions by enlarging campaigns
- ....
There is a lot content. My MechCommander content folder for Modding is 10GB of size at the moment. There are also files i never touched or looked into deeper - so you can be excited for more ongoing support and update-packages for MCG-DH v3.0. I don't recommend downgrading with these files. netpur.fit only affects solomissions. The two other Multi-player content. Keep in mind that you may get more crashs using old files and being not comparable with others playing online.
All in all I see no need to change these files four you personally. I gave the players full freedom. Freedom doesn't mean being forced to use best what's available. Your free to use is only stuff in these solomissions and that way ur just using only one tech then. It depends on players desire how to play not developers will how players have to play. That is one of the best arguments for, not against my Remastered Version3.0 and I definitely refuse to see mixed tech as "boring" and all the same... it just depends on what you are making of. Want a challenge? Then just ignore clan stuff... I don't see a problem.
