Another item - not sure if it's a bug or not.

Playing the expansion - just after mission 1 and I am in the Mech Lab trying to configure mechs for the next mission. I have Ilka in a Bushwacker-W with the following loadout:

1 x C small pulse laser - Load Value = 4
4 x C LRM - LV = 3 each, 12 total
2 x C ER medium laser - LV = 3.5 each, 7 total
1 x C LB 10X AC - LV - 13.5

I decided to add: 1 C large pulse laser - LV = 11.

This SHOULD mean that all I need to remove to make room for it, is the 4 C LRMs. Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I finally had to remove 1 C ER medium laser as well. 15.5 LV points removed to fit in one weapon with a LV of 11 - that is some bad mathematics there! And there is no space left to add anything else.

The only thing I can think of is that the AI is somehow seeing different load values than what is shown to us for each weapon.

Darkest Hours V3.0

I'm having a couple problems. The main one is that I don't know how to exit a mission. In the old MCG, it automatically exited once you had completed all mission objectives. But in Mission 1, Op 1, I'm stuck. I complete the main 3 objectives but it never goes to the "win screen". What do I do to exit?

RizZen added an objective when he redid the game. You have to cross a very long bridge to the west and capture a handful of resources. Just be careful as there is a Timberwolf guarding them. You can try and capture the T-wolf (I can never do it) but just make sure you don't complete at least one of the other objectives before going after the Timberwolf or the mission will finish.

3 months ago I reported a bug for Op2Mis13 of expansion, I'm still hoping it will be fixed soon :)
Unfortunately I also got stuck now at the original campaign, Op2Mis17. I always try to start the mission with 2 mechs and immediately after the mission completes loading it says "Mission objective can not be completed - Mission failed".
Any ideas why this happens? I tried several combinations of mechs and pilots for the mission, but i can not play it, always mission failed directly at beginning.

I´m sorry for the delay. Lastet some time after i could finally go on with my modding-work. But now it´s fixed. Okay it lastet some months - but from the original developers you couldn´t have expected any result for two decades lol - joke. Have fun downloading last hotfixes and enjoying the last 16 missions of MCG-Darkest Hours.

Mission 2x13 Expansion
After the end of the mission, when i came back on logistic phase, all the mech used in the 2x13 seems without weapons and if i click and try to go to the hangar the game crash, without the option to send a bugs report.

PS: I don't use the "new" mechwarriors, maybe it will help.

Waypoint Bug - Access violation
I´m sorry that i can not offer more than a workaround, but this error comes from the early days of MC1 when they introduced waypoint-system. On some maps Artificial Intelligence Collides with waypoint system on certain bottlenecks on the map. There are multiple maps with tight ways that can´t be passed without such a crash when you don´t follow the "security moving" steps. Only choose your mechs one by one passing bottlenecks, don´t do it with larger groups and don´t use waypoints, try to evade by bypassing the points where errors happens, even if it means burning down some woods to get a bypass.

Also tried to run game on notebook for another test, same Windows 10 x64, but got this: "Error with application run 0xc0000022".

Hi all,

Just downloaded this and am keen to get it running but I'm getting an error similar to the above:

"MCX1920x1080.EXE - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application."

ISO is mounted and in a separate directory, compatibility is set to XP SP2 and 8-bit colour. Nothing else running. I've tried the various executables but I get the same error every time.

I've found this error posted elsewhere but no working solutions. Any assistance would be appreciated.

EDIT: Looks like the issue was not having Direct Play enabled. Up and running now.

Resolution notes!
High-Resolutions have less stability on the technical side of view than lower ones. 1980x1020 can´t be played on some maps. Using lower resolutions to workaround is recommended. Even if it might be that you will be forced to play the one or other mission with 1024x768 only...

Hey people!

I am exited to see this kind of a mod when i want to return mech commander 1 and i jumped on it..

I started to expansion campaign and sadly, like most of you, i stuck at 2-13.. any saving attempt crushed the game.

Please help us great modder!

Or maybe the guy actually has a life and is busy with other stuff. It's not like he's getting paid for this plus half the bugs reported on here, like the game crashing after Op2Mi13 in the expansion, have been mentioned a dozen times and RiZ has said they should be fixed in the next release.

So I will say, I am enjoying MCG Darkest Hours, the version I have is whatever the main thread is cause I downloaded it a week ago. I get to about OP 2 mission 14(expansion)? It's the one after you capture the clan HQ/APC/Command Center. What happens is then all my mechs are in the red for little to no reason(None of them were brought down below half), and when I go into the mechbay, everything is empty and then I crash. I am using windows 7, 64 bit and I have tried running the EXE 640x480 under compatibility mode but that doesn't seem to work. I am attaching the error report I have for you. Thank you.

I am still working on update when i have a time window and motivation to use for.

There are some bugreports and im happy about to see them cause the postings of you in this thread will be my work table for all future updates.

Atleast the story will be completely different. All missions will have an epic story background.

@Gunner: Music volume issues: Music / Sound Volume settings in MCG-DH

@Krushak: Op2Mis13/14 will work after update. The problem is rewriting ALL purchase files efforts much time cause you need to care for multiple specified issues to keep mixed tech working for the whole campaign. Maybe it only can be done without mixed tech but we will see, i think its just a minor issue that will be removed when ALL the files get completely overhauled what not happened yet. At the moment i can not say how long it will take but i bet it will be still faster then anyone who tried to work on it before the past two decades.

Posting for my brother. Game works great on my system, not sure what's wrong with his. I have some ideas, but why not go to the masters?
All versions start up, play the initial startup screens (FASA, Microsoft) then it goes black and nothing more happens. Finally after waiting forever, he'll hit ESC and he gets this error.
running Windows 8.1 x64. Running the game in XP SP2 compatibility, I've had him adjust display settings as well as disable his audio Playback device. Nothing works. Please advise if possible.

I'm honest when I say I never saw this bug before. My experiences with Windows 7/8 is rare... I have positive and negative feedback, especially windows 7 has problems with MCG.

For best performance I recommend using windows 98/2000/XP and 10.
Resolutions - How to handle them (before gamestart)
Keep in mind that game only can be started with maximum desktop resolution. When ur desktop has 800x600 resolution all resolutions above won't work.

Those bugs and errors are any bugs which the developers have left when they published their campaign-standalones. For usermade campaigns there are not existing any source files which means a big workload when editing them. But it can be done. Let´s see how long it will take. But i´m happy to announce that all of those left are harmless origin bugs that won´t affect your games to crash. But loosing a pilot by replacement on a mission is a no-go. I just will focus on issues like that in the first place.

There will be a final update for MCG-DH-v3.0 which will include all of those in one package but this will last on some time cause it will be the last update for v3.0 until standalone v4.0 is finished. With version 4.0 the final upgrade package for all v3.0 users will be released so that they won´t be forced to download 2GB file again - but just a small update package.

Good evening dear MechCommander community,

today i have good news for all fans of real time tactics. I finally found the needle in the haystock. It was a long - more than three month´s ongoing search but finally i could isolate the mistake and updatet my prototype version with it. The result is a full functioning Operation 3 in Expansion Campaign of my Darkest Hours - Modulation.


In the first place my subject was the "master" campaign file for expansion. All lines of file where correct. Then i thought it might be a problem with new created purchase files for merged campaign - negative, all entries where correct. Last option was xStart - the master file and its master-purchase indexes - i found no bugs. Today i´ve had the idea - while taking my breakfast - that mission fst files could be the reason for corrupted game at Op2Mis13. So there was minimum one of two certain missions at the end of second operation that might be the reason for game crashing at this moment after finishing Original Mission Op2Mis4 from expansion mission order.

So i extracted XRiz0204.fst and found a wrong terrain entry relating this mission with the original 0204 file - which caused the crash after you have finished the mission. I corrected the entry and recompressed the fst file in order to paste it into my prototype mcg-dh - and e voila: Mission works fine and game goes on without serious issues or crash showing the Operation movie of Operation 3, the final operation of MCG - Darkest Hours remastered game version.

It will take some time for me to update the full-version. But for people who can not wait i created the most wanted bug & hotfix for MechCommander Gold - Darkest Hours, download below:

1. Download File
2. Copy file into MCG-Darkest Hours gamefolder by overriding existing older versions (where the *.exe files for resolutions are)

I know it took some time to find this last bug and that expansion couldn´t be finished before, but that most serious issue finally got solved now. Finally MCG-DH works with technically 100% original & expansion major campaign merges. The first big step is done. Now the focus will be on writing a new storyline for the whole game. As you can see all missions which got ever created and published for MCG are working in a single game standalone together giving MechCommander a better long time
motivation and possibilities to create each imagineable mech crew outmaxed at some point before certain campaign ends. This is my gift to the MechCommander / BattleTech community. I will inform about new storyline in other threads later. Although i am working on version 4.0 now. This version will include all single mission hotfixes, this last major hotfix, new music for expansion campaign, new purchase files for expansion and finally new mission briefings for ALL 130 campaign missions. The missions themselves won´t change neither the mission objectives. They will only logically match with the new background story for this part of timeline in battletech universe.
Last thing to say for me at the moment now is: THE WORST PART IS FINALLY DONE - what comes now is what many people could effort - updating mission briefings and rebalancing all purchases to fit in storylines order.

Now i encountered more problems at the beginning of Operation 3, don´t worry, final solution is nearby, updatet files will show up soon. I will finish this campaign off now.

Edit: I have only one more mission update to do for the last Operation. Original missions Op03Mis01 will be there for hotfix-update soon. Then game will be playable to its end.

That´s what im talking about when im saying: MCG Source Code is a b***h!

Edit II: It´s finally done. Expansion campaign now works 100% fine:

Now i can finally focus on Version 4.0 making it the most complete and error free MechCommander version ever. Technically all missions are working fine now. You can play 89 basic campaign missions in a big five operations ongoing one on Port-Arthur and about 41 missions in expansion campaign with three operations. This was a mass of work and problems to solve to get all existent campaigns together as a merged one. Focus now relays on visual aspects and erasing lack of logic by overhauling the storyline from Darkest Hours. This is the most important aspect and - im happy to say that - the most easy part from the technical perspective.

So everyone who already owns version 3.0 of Darkest Hours won´t need to download version 4.0 as full version then. I will release v4.0 Full version and a final update for v3.0 upgrading it to 4.0 without the need to paste in all hotfixes for game manually one by one.




I´m working on this Mod now for about two years. It was a hard way from having the first ideas / inspirations - to v3.0. The Prototype Version 1.0 "Ultimate" was only a merge of all user campaign missions. All original scenarios couldn´t be introduced cause they where not mergeable the way they where stored in *.fst source libraries. Beneath the fact that those scenarios where already extracted by the guys from github there where many problems left with it. The origin developers left them behind in a mess. It worked for original campaigns but changing only one little thing collapsed the game due to the way these files where stored. It was cMunsta knowledge only that helped me to get all the files isolated. I rewrote the whole original missions manually and used cMunsta tools to create CDP Packages for MCG-Engine to operate. 42 Missions got recreated from zero by me. After this was done i could implement them into "Ultimate" version without any serious further errors and brought out the first official "Darkest Hours" Version 2.0. Versions 2.0 a-d where multi-player and solo-mission updates for other game features than single-player campaigns. After succesfully making MCG-DH multi-player compatible to play via gameranger i introduced the new features into version 2.0 and added some artwork fixes (new pilots avatars and nameplates for example) and pilots data cards. After fixing some bugs with campaign merge issues - primary the purchase files got reconfigured and all starting files / conditions got rebalanced - version 3.0 was born. MechCommander - Darkest Hours Version 3.0 was the FIRST standalone version. Before version 3.0 came out people needed to do sophisticated updates on a basic MCG game version before they could play the mod. With version 3.0 Darkest Hours became simple to install. Only thing people need to do is to download the full installed game folder and extract it into their game directories. Then entering the gamefolder, mounting included *.iso file and starting the game-resolution *.exe file they desire to play. Compatibility changes not forced to be necessary on my Windows 10, 64-bit game runs without compability settings but is most stable with Windows XP SP2 compability played with 16-bit colors and 1024x768 - 1440x900 resolution - 1920x1080 is best graphic but unstable - some missions have to be played with lower resolutions.

So atleast Version 4.0 will be familiar to 3.0. It will be a full-version download containing pre-installed game folder to extract with included *.iso file and resolution *.exe files to start game as comfortable as possible for users.
